C'thena oen Bast

Garlean turncoat seeking to find truth and purpose amidst deception and corruption. Former Duplicarius of Garlemald, current member of The Lemures in Ul'dah.

Her Story

The offspring of an ill-gotten relation between a Miqo'te and her Garlean captor, C'thena grew up knowing relatively little about her mother's side of the family. Her father, a tyrant of a Garlean Legatus, kept a convincing facade most her life, that her mother hated the Empire and her own child both, abandoning them without casting even a fleeting glance back.

It is known that 'the truth will out', and so it did in this girl's case. Her time spent as a Duplicarius of the Empire served her well in two regards. One, she developed the prowess to care and fend for herself in the unforgiving environment in which she found herself, and two, that her many annexations in which she took part led her to meet a member of her mother's tribe. This crone spoke to the other side of the story, how C'thena's ancestral tribe had been one of the Empire's many victims of extermination and assimilation, how her mother had been forced to flee to preserve her own life and give her infant daughter the best fighting chance of her own. In that moment was the first of C'thena's many betrayals of the Empire, for when this elder explained this in its entirety, the young girl quickly loosed her restraints and turned her back to facilitate her escape. Perhaps, it had the secondary benefit of preserving her dignity by preventing her falling tears from being witnessed by another.

Her mother hadn't abandoned her at all.

There was nothing to be done for the years, nearly thirty at this point, that had passed since C'thena's mother had been wrenched from her life without either of their consent, but C'thena's gaze shifted promptly to the future. No, she couldn't correct the past nor undo the time she had spent as a loyal Reaper of the Garlean militia, but she could use the skills she had acquired in order to locate the woman who had so selflessly suffered so that C'thena would live.

"I'm going to find you, mother. I won't abandon you either."
